Anxiety and distress in teens have reached an all-time high, due to a variety of factors, including academic pressures, frightening societal news, social media, and residual effects of pandemic isolation. The good news is that psychology has developed effective ways to reduce anxiety and distress and increase positive coping and wellbeing through mindfulness and mindfulness-based psychology approaches.
This six-week program is adapted from the highly researched MBCT and MBSR-T(teen) programs. To join:

What is a mindfulness-based group program?
Mindfulness-based programs such as MBSR, MBCT, and MBSR-T(teen) programs, are highly researched programs that have been shown to be effective in reducing distress and increasing emotion regulation (inner calm). Mindfulness teaches us how to relate to our thoughts and emotions with gentle awareness and compassion in ways that help us deal more effectively with anxiety, stress, and difficult emotions.
Who could benefit from this Mindfulness for Teen Stress group?
This program is geared to any teen between the ages of 14-18, especially ones feeling overly stressed and anxious.
When and where are the sessions?
Sessions are 1.5 hours each Wednesday afternoon, 3:30 to 5:00, from March 15 to April 19, 2023. All sessions are online and participants will receive directions on how to attend.
What is the cost?
The cost for the program is $275 and includes all sessions and materials. The fee can be paid all at once, or with a $50 deposit to hold a place and balance due by the first day of class. If there is a hardship you may contact Dr. Alvarado to see about a reduced fee.

MBCT for Adults

Eight-week online class
This Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) group program is geared to adults with mild to moderate anxiety, stress, and/or depression symptoms. MBCT is an evidence based program that teaches a different relationship with one's thoughts and feelings. It involves mindful awareness and self-compassion to reduce distress and increase wellbeing.

These classes run for eight weeks and are 2 hours long. All sessions are online. Dates and times for the next eight-week program To Be Announced. The cost for this program is $325 and includes all sessions and materials.
